Benambra is a small farming township, surrounded by hills and mountain ranges on the edge of the renowned Lake Omeo (dry or full depending on the season). Nestled amongst the Omeo High Plains the rural land is still farmed by the Pendergast family who settled here in 1834.
A visit to the Benambra Hotel is a must see. It is the place where the locals and visitors mix over a beer and game of pool.
Outdoor enthusiasts thrive here with an abundance of quality fishing, camping, horse riding, four-wheel driving, dirt biking, bushwalking and cycling at the gateway to the Alpine National Park.
If you happen to be visiting on these dates, you are in for a great high country event:
- First Tuesday in March – High Country Calf Sales
- Saturday of Labour Day long weekend in March – Hinnomunjie Races
